Firth Senior Scholar
My name is Rebecca and I am a fourth year medical student at Queen’s. I completed the first three years of my medicine degree at Queen’s and fell in love with the College’s community feel, beautiful buildings, and chapel choir so much that I decided to stay for my clinical studies. Having remained at Queen’s, I was therefore lucky enough to be considered for the Firth Senior Scholarship. This financial support has enabled me to pursue research opportunities alongside my medical teaching; most notably have I worked with Prof Laurent Servais’ group STRONG (Specialised Translational Research Oxford Neuromuscular Group) who are investigating gene therapies and newborn screening for a rare disease called spinal muscular atrophy. I have loved the experience of becoming more involved in clinical research and am very grateful to Queen’s for their support in this!
