Christine Peters was Stipendiary Lecturer in Early Modern History at Queen’s from 1994 until 2020, when the ravages of early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease forced her into early retirement. She produced highly original research on women in Reformation-period religious culture, including her books Patterns of Piety (2003) and Women in Early Modern Britain (2004). Many former pupils will remember the rigour of her tutorials, and her merciless but creative dissection of their essays. She was married to Martin Edwards, formerly Fellow in Mathematics at Queen’s. Her death was preceded by a long and distressing decline, and the College sends its heartfelt condolences to her family.

The funeral of Christine Peters will take place on Wednesday 1 May 2024, 2.30pm, at St Michael’s Church, St Michael’s Road, Minehead, TA24 5RZ. A wake will be held in Minehead afterwards. Those wishing to attend are asked to inform Christine’s mother, Laura Peters, beforehand for catering purposes: laura.peters2011@btinternet.com
