The annual Taberdars’ Society Luncheon will take place on Saturday 17 May 2025. This year, in the beautiful month of May, we are thinking about gardens and will have the opportunity to visit the Provost’s Garden. The afternoon programme will include an exclusive recital by string quartet OXUS, celebrating the musical inspiration of gardens and flowers.

Invitations by email and letter have been sent out to members of the Society. Members are very welcome to bring a guest. If you have not received your invitation, please let Catherine House know.

The Taberdars’ Society

The Taberdars’ Society recognises the enormous contribution that legacy gifts have made to The Queen’s College, building academic excellence and nurturing generations of students. We are always pleased to welcome new members and anyone who lets us know that they have included a gift to Queen’s in their will is invited to join the Society.

OXUS

OXUS is a string quartet with an eye for intriguing and unusual repertoire, performing music from all eras and specialising in approachable 20th century and contemporary works. They have been playing together since 2006 and frequently perform with other artists and media in works such as Steve Reich’s Different Trains with electronics, and The Juliet Letters by Elvis Costello and The Brodsky Quartet, Arts Council funded collaborative projects with installation artist Pam Foley, with Moonrakers folk group and even recording for a Japanese department store at Abbey Road Studios!

OXUS performs regularly in Oxford and St Albans, and in venues ranging from the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, to the stables building of a pub in the Thame Arts and Literary Festival and the Ashmolean Museum. Other regular activities include giving workshops, working with youth and amateur orchestras, and coaching. OXUS was the resident quartet for the Wycombe Abbey School’s inaugural Chamber Music Summer School.

Kate Bailey, Louise Graham, Heather Birt and Old Member Spike Wilson (Music, 1979) will be performing in May at the Taberdars’ Society Annual Luncheon. We look forward to welcoming them.
