The College’s Distinguished Visitor Peter Brathwaite FRSA will lead an exciting work-in-progress sharing event to request feedback as he develops a project for public performance.

Peter is a British Barbadian opera singer and a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London. He works across different art forms to uncover and amplify the stories of suppressed voices. He begins his residency at Queen’s during an opera season in which he performs roles in the New Opera Days Festival in Czechia, The Time of Our Singing at La Monnaie de Munt, Brussels, and in Mark Anthony-Turnage’s new opera Festen at the Royal Ballet and Opera, Covent Garden, London.

Peter is working with composer Dr Robert Laidlow – Jesus College to develop a new music theatre performance exploring hidden histories relating to Peter’s ancestors lying in Oxford’s archives. The story Peter tells about generations of his family, both enslaved and slave owners, is brought to life using AI technology to give voice to long silent objects and histories.

This event is open to students, staff, and Fellows of the College.
